Community Yoga Albuquerque

Text Box: Community Yoga Albuquerque (CYA) is a volunteer organization that strives to provide free yoga instruction for people who lack access to study in mainstream settings due to obstacles such as poverty, violence, lack of housing, transportation or any other conventional barrier.

Our program focuses on breath awareness, meditation, body awareness and building length and strength through yoga.  Through our teaching, we try to help foster confidence, self esteem, stress relief and empowerment within our students' lives.  Hopefully, CYA will provide one sustainable tool to help our students face life's challenges in a positive way.

Currently, we are serving at a Domestic Violence Shelter and a community centers in Albuquerque, NM.  In the future, as our volunteer numbers increase, we plan to expand to include other sites in the area.  Our teachers volunteer 1-2 times per month for a one hour class and work with a partner teacher.  We have orientation meeting for new volunteers that covers sensitive issues, curriculum ideas, and other guiding ideas from successful street/non profit yoga programs.   We have a basic supply of mats, blankets, and straps. All of our props are donated.

If you have the time to be involved in our program, please contact us.  This is a wonderful way to reach out to the community doing something that you enjoy! If you cannot volunteer, consider donating one piece of used or new yoga equipment!
